Emergency works to a listed building
Emergency works can be carried out on a listed building without prior consent if they are urgently necessary to safeguard the building's safety, health, or preservation.
The emergency works must be limited to the minimum measures immediately required, and it should not have been practicable to ensure public safety and health or to preserve the building through repair or temporary support. Additionally, written notice justifying the emergency works must be provided to the Local Planning Authority as soon as reasonably practicable.
Failure to prove all these mitigating circumstances may result in prosecution for carrying out unauthorised works.
