National Marine Park, Plymouth

PL1

BluePrint provided heritage consultancy for the UK's first National Marine Park project.

A funding boost of £11.6m from The National Lottery Heritage Fund was awarded to Plymouth to support the project.

Beginning at RIBA Stage 2, we helped secure planning and listed building consent approvals for Tinside Lido, the Garden Battery at Mount Edgcumbe, and Mount Batten. At Tinside Lido, we conducted detailed assessments of the condition, defects, and necessary repairs for the main Art Deco building and the traditional stone building to the east. We finalised the technical design for repairs and alterations to the envelopes of both buildings (excluding roofs) and for internal concrete repairs and specialist elements.

BluePrint was appointed to oversee the repair works, while the architects (LHC Design) focused on the terrace and internal fit-out. The contractor engaged us directly for RIBA Stage 5 to oversee the repair of the envelopes of both buildings. Our involvement reduced risks, preserved the integrity of the historic structures, maintained quality throughout construction, and facilitated a smooth process.
