Tinside Lido Wins Heritage Project of the Year

We are delighted to share that Tinside Lido has been awarded Heritage Project of the Year at the 2026 Michelmore's Property Awards, announced on 26 June. This recognition celebrates the careful restoration and revitalisation of one of Plymouth’s most iconic coastal landmarks.
As part of the wider National Marine Park project, Tinside Lido formed one of three key heritage sites brought forward to enhance public access, celebrate maritime identity, and support long-term conservation.
BluePrint’s Role in the National Marine Park
BluePrint Architectural Workshop was appointed to provide heritage consultancy services across the National Marine Park scheme. At Tinside Lido, we worked in close collaboration with LHC Design, supporting the project from RIBA Stage 3 onward, where we were appointed by the contractor to provide full support through construction to completion.
Our role focused on ensuring that the architectural proposals respected the historic significance of the Grade II listed structure while enabling the necessary interventions to secure its long-term use and resilience in a challenging coastal environment.
This included:
- Full support to secure the Planning and Listed Building Consent applications.
- Detailed design and heritage specifications to ensure compliance with heritage policy.
- Technical review of materials and detailing appropriate to the historic fabric.
- Full support during construction to ensure quality and safeguard heritage significance.

A Landmark Restoration
Originally opened in 1935, Tinside Lido is a defining example of Plymouth’s interwar coastal architecture. Its restoration required a careful balance between preservation and adaptation—retaining its distinctive character while upgrading performance, safety, and accessibility.
Key aspects of the project included:
- Repair and conservation of historic structures.
- Sensitive integration of modern building services and safety measures.
- Enhancements to accessibility and user facilities.
- Measures to improve durability in a marine environment.
The result is a revitalised public space that remains true to its heritage while meeting contemporary expectations.
Recognition for Collaborative Delivery
This award is a testament to the collaborative effort between the client, design team, and specialist consultants. We are proud to have supported LHC Design and the wider team in delivering a project that demonstrates how heritage-led design can play a central role in civic regeneration.
Projects such as Tinside Lido reinforce the value of informed conservation architecture—not only in preserving historic assets, but in ensuring they continue to serve communities for generations to come.
